Executive Committee Meeting
July 21, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Trey Golmon at 2:06 p.m., July 21, 2001. The meeting was conducted via teleconference.
In the absence of the secretary, the Chairman requested that John Hey record the minutes.
Roll Call
Members present: Trey Golmon, Chairman, John Hey, National Committeeman; Ryan Walters, Vice-Chairman.
Not present: John Goodman, Treasurer, Lisa Hinson, Secretary.
Discussion of National Convention
John Hey described some of the activities that have been going on leading up to the convention. He mentioned that some of the SPO's are helping to finance a fundraiser at the Convention.
John Hey moved that the Party donate $250 to the RPUSA earmarked for the fundraising event. The motion was seconded by Golmon, and adopted unanimously.
The members discussed briefly the latest political discussions on stem cell research. The members agreed that George Bush showed a lack of character and respect for human life by not coming out strongly against the research immediately. It was discussed that Bush and the Republicans are "counting votes" to see which position is the most politically advantageous.
Correction of Previous Minutes
Mr. Hey brought up the fact that the minutes of the July 22, 2000 meeting of the Executive Committee are ambiguous regarding the filling of a vacancy in the National Committee.
Mr. Walters made the following motion:
In the Discussion of filling the vacancy in the National Committee member position which took place at the July 22, 2000 Executive Committee meeting, and which is recorded in the minutes thereof, strike the present language and insert the following: "Chairman Trey Golmon suggested that John Hey be elected as National Committee Member. John Goodman moved the election of John Hey as National Committee Member. Trey Golmon seconded. The motion was adopted unanimously."
The motion was seconded by Mr. Golmon, and adopted unanimously.
Election of Delegates
Mr. Golmon brought to the Committee's attention that two At-Large delegate slots, and the delegate slots from Districts 2 and 5 are vacant. The delegates elected at the convention are unable to participate in this year's national convention. According to the party bylaws, the Executive Committee has the authority to elect replacement delegates when vacancies occur.
Mr. Golmon moved to declare the two At Large positions, and the Districts 2 and 5 positions for delegate vacant. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hey, and adopted unanimously.
Mr. Golmon moved to elect John Hey as the delegate from District 2. The motion was seconded by Mr. Walters, and adopted unanimously.
Mr. Hey moved to elect Ken Overstreet as the delegate from District 5. The motion was seconded by Mr. Walters, and adopted unanimously.
Mr. Walters moved to elect Mr. Steve Edson as an At Large Delegate. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hey, and adopted unanimously.
Mr. Hey moved to elect Drew Rayner as an At Large Delegate. The motion was seconded by Mr. Walters, and adopted unanimously.
The members discussed plans to travel to Nashville. Mr. Golmon announced that his heavy work schedule would prevent him from attending as a delegate.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by
John Pittman Hey
